Dr. Hannah Harvey serves as an Assistant Professor of Education in the Department of Education Professions within the Burton College of Education at McNeese State University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, formerly known as USL; a Master of Education in Education Administration and Supervision from Southern University and A&M College; and a Doctor of Education in Executive Educational Leadership from Houston Baptist University. Before joining McNeese State University, Dr. Harvey accumulated extensive professional experience in public school systems across Texas and Louisiana. In Texas public schools, she worked as an assistant principal, principal, and director of interventions. In the Louisiana public school system, her roles included teacher, university admissions counselor, and instructional coordinator, encompassing both elementary and secondary educational settings. This diverse background equips her to effectively prepare future educators through practical insights into school administration and classroom instruction.
Dr. Harvey's teaching emphasizes literacy education, curriculum and instruction, and educational leadership. Her research centers on promoting literacy as an instrument to empower individuals, communities, and societies. In April 2022, she presented her dissertation, “Elementary Principals’ Knowledge and Practices of Literacy Instruction: Impact on Teachers’ Perceptions and Actions Related to Instruction,” at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) annual meeting in San Diego, California. At McNeese, Dr. Harvey directs the Call Me MiSTER program, which focuses on recruiting, training, and retaining male teachers of color in elementary education. She also leads the INVEST Summer Enrichment Camp, a program for students in grades 1-3 offered from June 5 to 29, providing academic and enrichment activities weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Additionally, she contributes as camp director for McNeese summer activities for youth and engages in professional development initiatives, such as representing the Burton College of Education at educational challenges. Through her roles, presentations, and leadership, Dr. Harvey advances teacher preparation, literacy instruction, and educational equity.
