About Haryana

Professor Haryana Dhillon is Professor of Psycho-Oncology in the School of Psychology, Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney. She earned her BSc (1989-1992), MA in Psychology (1993), and PhD (2010) from the University of Sydney, with her doctoral thesis titled 'Improving informed consent for colonoscopy' under supervisors Prof Phyllis Butow and A/Prof Martin Stockler. Her career at the University of Sydney spans over two decades, beginning as Research Coordinator in Cognitive Studies at CeMPED in 2005, followed by Program Manager at Cancer Council Australia (2005-2007), Manager of the Survivorship Research Group (2007-2010), Post-doctoral Research Fellow (2010-present), and ALTG-POCOG Lung Cancer Research Fellow (2011-present). She co-leads the Cancer Survivorship Research Group, serves as Chair of the Psycho-Oncology Cooperative Research Group (PoCoG), President Elect of the Cancer Survivorship Group at the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA), and is a pioneer of the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG), co-chairing trials such as OXTOX and CHALLENGE.

Dhillon's research interests include psycho-oncology, cancer survivorship, supportive care, cognitive dysfunction and fatigue in cancer patients and from treatments, sleep disturbance, physical activity impacts on cancer outcomes, healthcare communication, and behavioral interventions for chronic disease. She has secured over $4.55 million in competitive grants, published extensively with more than 13,274 citations and an h-index reflecting substantial impact, including work in The Lancet. Her leadership extends to editorial and committee roles, invited national presentations, and mentoring, earning awards such as the 2023 COSA Psycho-Oncology Award, 2025 Eureka Prize finalist for Outstanding Mentor of Researchers, and 2015 AGITG New Concept Award runner-up.
