About Hasan

Hasan Raja Naqvi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India, within the Faculty of Natural Sciences, a position he has held since May 2018. He earned his PhD in Soil Erosion, Watershed Management, and Remote Sensing/GIS in January 2013, along with an MA and BA in Geography from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Naqvi also holds diplomas in Remote Sensing/GIS & GPS and NGO Management. Prior to his current appointment, he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at Adama Science & Technology University, Ethiopia, from September 2013 to May 2018, and Research Assistant in the GIS Epidemiology Division at The Inclen Trust International, New Delhi, from October 2012 to August 2013.

Naqvi's research focuses on land and climate changes, natural resources management, soil erosion, watershed management, air pollution and associated health impacts, and urban built environment issues, utilizing Remote Sensing, GIS, machine learning, and field methodologies. His contributions include studies on environmental pollution during COVID-19 lockdowns and wildfires. Notable publications are 'Wildfire-induced pollution and its short-term impact on COVID-19 cases and mortality in California' (Gondwana Research, 2023), 'Estimating ground-level PM2.5 using subset regression model and machine learning algorithms in Asian megacity, Dhaka, Bangladesh' (Air Quality, Atmosphere & Health, 2023), 'Street Mapping, Object Detection and traffic load assessment from SVIs and field data Using YOLOv3, Machine Learning and GIS' (Geocarto International, 2022), 'Sediment Yield Assessment, Prioritization and Control Practices in Chambal River Basin Employing SYI Model' (Journal of the Geological Society of India, 2022), and 'Improved air quality and associated mortalities in India under COVID-19 lockdown' (Environmental Pollution, 2021). He received the UGC Non-Net Fellowship (2008-2012), CSIR Travel Award for UCGIS-2012, and a CRC Press prize. Naqvi advises the Jamia Geography Association, coordinates DIP Training, and supervises student projects.
