Heather Cooper is the Manager of Teaching and Research Services in the University Library at Macquarie University. Holding a Bachelor of Education (BEd) and a Graduate Diploma in Information and Library Studies (GradDipInfoLibStds), she has been actively involved in library and research support since 2003. Her academic and professional interests encompass digital research skills to support academic success, library data skills through initiatives like library carpentry, gamification of evidence-based practice (EBP) learning, auditing information literacy skills among undergraduate students, and evaluating journal publication productivity, impact, and quality among academics in Applied Linguistics and TESOL fields.
As Primary Chief Investigator, Cooper led the project "Digital research skills to support academic success" from January to December 2014. Her peer-reviewed publications include "Journal publication productivity, impact, and quality among Applied Linguistics and TESOL academics in the Group of Eight Australian Universities" (2022, Australian Review of Applied Linguistics, 45(1), 98-122, co-authored with M. Riazi and G. Calvey, 3 Scopus citations, 242 downloads); "Is there life on Mars? Gamification of evidence-based practice learning" (2017, Journal of the Medical Library Association, 105(4), 409-411, co-authored with G. Calvey and M. Simons, 53 downloads); and "Confidence or competence? Auditing information literacy skills of biology undergraduate students" (2003, EDUCAUSE in Australasia 03 conference proceedings, co-authored with S. Vickery, 64 downloads). Additional contributions feature conference abstracts such as "Twinsets & toolbelts - developing library data skills aka library carpentry at Macquarie University Library" (2019, co-authored with G. Calvey and F. Jones). These outputs highlight her contributions to advancing teaching, research support, and innovative library practices at Macquarie University.
