About Heba
Dr Heba Sailem is a Reader in Computational Pathology and Wellcome Career Development Fellow at King’s College London in the School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She earned a PhD from the Institute of Cancer Research in London, an MSc in Data Warehousing and Data Mining, and a BSc in Computer Information Systems. Prior to her current appointment, she held research fellowships at the University of Oxford, the University of Zurich, and Corpus Christi College, where she developed machine learning techniques to improve the interpretability of large-scale biomedical image data.
Her research focuses on creating AI-powered tools to enable precise, data-driven cancer treatment strategies, with particular emphasis on identifying digital biomarkers and their biological mechanisms. Dr Sailem has developed resources including the AI in Histopathology Explorer dashboard for evaluating over 1,500 AI-based histopathology studies, ShapoGraphy for visualising phenotypic data, and TissuePlot for visualising spatial transcriptomics data. She serves as Course Leader for Research Methods and accepts applications from PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. Her work prioritises responsible data use, transparency, and fairness in AI applications to improve healthcare access.
