About Hee

Andy Hee Lee, professionally known as Dr. Andy Lee, is a lecturer and researcher in the UQ Business School at the University of Queensland, where he joined in 2012. He leads the Master of Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management program and serves as course coordinator for subjects such as Food and Beverage Management. His professional journey began after obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Tourism, during which he worked for three years as a Food and Beverage coordinator at a five-star hotel. He advanced his education with a Master's degree (Coursework) in Science from Michigan State University and a Doctor of Philosophy from Pennsylvania State University. Before UQ, Lee held an Assistant Professor position at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University for four years.

Lee's research focuses on information technology applications in hospitality and tourism, particularly information search, dissemination, and cognitive processes. He has authored over 53 publications in leading journals, including highly cited works such as "Helpful reviewers in TripAdvisor, an online travel community" (Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing, 2011, 517 citations), "A review of website evaluation studies in the tourism and hospitality fields from 1996 to 2009" (International Journal of Tourism Research, 2011, 269 citations), "An examination of the relationship between online travel agents and hotels: A case study of Choice Hotels International and Expedia.com" (Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, 2013, 259 citations), and "Progress and Development of Information Technology in the Hospitality Industry: Evidence from Cornell Hospitality Quarterly" (Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, 2013, 187 citations). Recent publications cover topics like fostering employee well-being in hospitality (Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management, 2024), hospitality employees' trust in service robots (Tourism and Hospitality, 2025), and cultural influences on tourists' color perceptions (Tourism Management, 2025). Lee has secured funding from sources including the UQ New Staff Research Start-Up Fund (2013) and OLT Innovation and Development Grants (2015–2018). He supervises PhD candidates on destination management organizations and pro-environmental information in tourism.
