About Henry

Scientia Professor Henry Brodaty is a leading figure in ageing and mental health at the University of New South Wales. He holds the position of Scientia Professor of Ageing and Mental Health and serves as Co-Director of the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Sydney awarded in 1970, a Doctor of Medicine from UNSW in 1985, and a Doctor of Science from UNSW in 2006. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, and the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia. Professor Brodaty works as a senior psychogeriatrician at Prince of Wales Hospital and heads the Memory Disorders Clinic there. He is also Director of the Dementia Centre for Research Collaboration Assessment and Better Care. His research focuses on dementia, prevention of cognitive decline, depression in older adults, carers, and health services for the elderly. Key contributions include leadership in the Maintain Your Brain randomised controlled trial and numerous publications on neurodegenerative diseases and psychogeriatrics. In 2026 he was named NSW Senior Australian of the Year in recognition of his lifetime contributions to dementia care, research and advocacy. Professor Brodaty continues to mentor clinicians and advance understanding of mental health in ageing populations through his clinical and academic roles.
