About Hideo

Hideo Negishi is an Associate Professor in the Division of Vaccine Science, Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo. He earned his Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Medicine at The University of Tokyo in 2006. Following his doctorate, he served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Immunology at the Graduate School of Medicine from 2006 to 2008. He then held positions as Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology at the Graduate School of Medicine from 2008 to 2012 and as Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Immunology at the Institute of Industrial Science from 2012 to 2019. Since 2019, he has been affiliated with the Division of Vaccine Science at the Institute of Medical Science.

Negishi’s research centers on innate immune responses, including the roles of interferon regulatory factors, Toll-like receptors, RIG-I-like receptors, and the cGAS-STING pathway. His work has explored mechanisms of type I interferon induction, cross-interference between antiviral and antibacterial signaling pathways, and the regulation of immune homeostasis. In 2026, he contributed to the discovery of nucleocytosis, a process by which immune cells extract nuclear DNA from dying cells to activate cGAS-IFN-I responses, as detailed in a publication in Nature Communications. Key publications include studies in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on IRF licensing, TLR signaling, and microbiota-mediated responses, as well as papers in Nature Immunology on RLR-TLR cross-interference. His contributions advance understanding of innate immunity and its applications in vaccine science and immune-related diseases. Professional Email: null
