About Howard

Howard D. Sesso, ScD, MPH serves as Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He holds the position of Associate Epidemiologist and Associate Director of the Division of Preventive Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he also directs Nutrition Research and co-directs Hypertension Research. Dr. Sesso earned a BA from Stanford University, an MPH from George Washington University, and an ScD from the Harvard School of Public Health. His work centers on the epidemiology and prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer, with particular emphasis on the roles of vitamin and mineral supplements and nutritional biomarkers. He has led or co-led major randomized clinical trials, including serving as Project Director for the Physicians’ Health Study II and as Co-Principal Investigator of the COcoa Supplement and Multivitamin Outcomes Study (COSMOS). Dr. Sesso has published more than 280 peer-reviewed papers and teaches courses on clinical trials and epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School while mentoring students and junior faculty.
