Professor Hua Wang is a full-time Professor at Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia, where he has been appointed since February 2014. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, in 2004. Previously, he was affiliated with the University of Southern Queensland and served as Head of the Software Group in the Department of Post-Communication, China. In his current role, Wang acts as research leader in the Centre for Applied Informatics and is a prominent member of the Institute for Sustainable Industries & Liveable Cities (ISILC). He contributes to the Next-Gen Informatics & Technology Lab (NITL) within the Program of Applied Informatics.
Professor Wang's research focuses on electronic commerce, business process modelling, big data analysis, access control, cloud computing, machine learning, data privacy, and secure data sharing. He has an extensive publication record, with over 377 peer-reviewed papers, more than 11,000 citations, and an h-index of 43 according to Google Scholar and ResearchGate profiles. Key publications include "Automatic Detection of Diabetic Eye Disease Through Deep Learning Using Optical Coherence Tomography Images" (2020), "A Niching Memetic Algorithm for Multi-Solution Traveling Salesman Problem" (2020), "Data-Driven Evolutionary Algorithm With Perturbation-Based Ensemble Surrogates" (2020), and "Targeted Aspect-Based Multimodal Sentiment Analysis: An Attention Capsule Extraction and Multi-Head Fusion Network" (2021). As chief investigator, he has secured multiple Australian Research Council Discovery grants since 2006, including recent projects on user protection, secure data sharing, and AI solutions for electric vehicle charging. Wang has supervised the graduation of six PhD students and currently oversees 14 doctoral candidates, significantly influencing applied informatics and computational intelligence fields.
