Huseyin Cavusoglu is the Ashbel Smith Professor of Information Systems in the Naveen Jindal School of Management at The University of Texas at Dallas, where he contributes to the Business & Economics faculty through his expertise in the economics of information systems. He earned his Ph.D. in Management Science and M.S. in Information Technology Management and Consulting from UT Dallas in 2003, following a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Bogazici University in Istanbul in 1999. Cavusoglu joined UT Dallas as a Ph.D. student in 1999, serving as a teaching assistant until 2003. After completing his doctorate, he was an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at Tulane University's Freeman School of Business from 2003 to 2006 and a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia in 2005. He returned to UT Dallas in 2006 as a Visiting Assistant Professor, advancing to Assistant Professor from 2008 to 2010, Associate Professor from 2010 to 2017, and full Professor since 2017.
His research focuses on the intersection of economics and information systems, examining the economic implications of emerging information technologies, including value creation for firms and customers, impacts on power relationships in markets, and social policy implications. Key areas include economics of information security and privacy, sharing economy, online reviews, health IT, and supply chain management. Cavusoglu's work has been published in leading journals such as Management Science, Operations Research, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Production and Operations Management, INFORMS Journal on Computing, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, and Journal of Management Information Systems. Notable publications include "The Value of Intrusion Detection Systems in Information Technology Security Architecture" (Information Systems Research, 2005), "Assessing the Impact of Granular Privacy Controls on Content Sharing and Disclosure on Facebook" (Information Systems Research, 2016), and "Strategic Implications of Online Retail Platforms' Membership-Based Free Shipping" (Information Systems Research, 2023). He has received best-paper awards and nominations at conferences including the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and the Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS). As Ashbel Smith Professor, he holds a prestigious endowed chair recognizing his contributions to the field.
