Dr. I. Shahanaz Begum is the Dean of Computing Sciences and Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at M.I.E.T. Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India, a position she assumed on June 3, 2024. She serves on the institution's Academic Council and chairs the Boards of Studies for the B.Tech programs in Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. As a professor and mentor in the Computer Science and Engineering department, she guides student projects, including those featured in publications such as the International Journal of Scientific Multidisciplinary and Technological and those presented at conferences like NCETET 2025. Her earlier tenure at M.I.E.T. Engineering College was as Assistant Professor from 2005 to 2007.
Prior to rejoining M.I.E.T., Dr. Begum worked as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology at University College of Engineering, Anna University BIT Campus, Tiruchirappalli, from 2009 onward. She holds M.E. and Ph.D. degrees. Dr. Begum's research contributions center on cybersecurity, with publications including 'Deepfake Image and Video Detection: A Review' co-authored with Poonggazhal T.T.K. and T. Jenifer (2025), 'Detection and Prevention of SQL Injection, XSS and DDoS Attacks in Web Application and Mitigation of Web Application Attacks' (2017) with G. Geetharamani, 'Preventing Cross Site Request Forgery Attacks,' 'The HTTP Flooding Attack Detection to Secure and Safeguard Online Applications in the Cloud,' and 'A Decentralized Biometric Voting Framework using Grassmann Subspace Verification.' Her work addresses vulnerabilities in web applications, cloud environments, and emerging threats like deepfakes.
