Rate My Professor Isidro Durazo Cardenas

Dr Isidro Durazo Cardenas is Senior Lecturer in Life-cycle Engineering at Cranfield University in the Centre for Life-cycle Engineering and Management. He holds the qualification FHEA and leads research in autonomous and robotic inspection and maintenance systems, human-integrated and safety-assured autonomous systems, intelligent sensing, diagnostics and condition monitoring, through-life engineering, reliability and asset resilience, as well as the deployment of robotics in regulated, safety-critical environments with applications in rail, transport infrastructure, energy and industry.

With over a decade of experience in applied research, education and innovation aligned to national infrastructure and industrial priorities, Dr Durazo Cardenas focuses on enabling safe, reliable and deployable use of autonomous and robotic systems in regulated environments, particularly rail and wider infrastructure sectors. He serves as Assistant Director of Education for Apprenticeships, overseeing academic quality, coordination and regulatory compliance across the apprenticeship portfolio, and as Course Director for the Through-Life Systems Sustainment and Digital Forensics Level 7 MSc apprenticeship programmes. He also acts as Cranfield’s UKRRIN Academic Lead, representing the university in national rail-innovation strategy and engaging with Network Rail at senior level. His work involves collaboration with partners including the Ministry of Defence and Network Rail, supervision of doctoral and MSc researchers, academic governance, mentoring and contributions to safety, quality and standards in education and research.
