About Ibrahim
Mr. Ibrahim Ismail serves as a lecturer at Mandhu College, where he teaches courses in curriculum and philosophy. He earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Canberra in 1991 and a Master of Education degree from the same institution in 1993. His master’s thesis examined education planning in small island states and introduced a new theory on the subject. Mr. Ismail has more than twenty years of experience in the Maldivian Ministry of Education, holding positions including Head of Policy Research, Head of Curriculum Development, and Head of Examinations. He chaired the Drafting Committee of the Constitutional Assembly that produced the 2008 Constitution of the Maldives and represented the Male’ Constituency as a member of Parliament. He has also worked as an advisor to the first democratically elected President of the Maldives and contributed to research consultancies for organizations such as the Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, United Nations Development Programme, and UNICEF. In 2013, Mr. Ismail received the University of Canberra Distinguished Alumni Award for his contributions to Maldivian education and the promotion of human rights and democracy. His academic interests center on educational sociology, philosophy, policy research, and education in small island states. He maintains a strong commitment to human rights and liberal democracy while continuing to lecture in these areas.
