Dr. Ing Ming Chew is a Senior Lecturer in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Curtin University Malaysia, Miri Campus, Faculty of Engineering and Science. He currently serves as Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering). Dr. Chew holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, an MBA in Entrepreneurship, a B.Eng. in Instrumentation and Control from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia in 2003, and a Certificate IV in Teaching and Training (TVET) from 2012. His career encompasses significant industry experience, including Senior Executive at Mechtamatic Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd (MAE MODELS GROUP), Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Matromatic Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd (MAE MODELS GROUP), Electrical Engineer cum Manufacturing Engineer for Reflow Oven Machine at Eletrovert USA (2003-2008), Senior Manufacturing Engineer for Ace sorter conveyor system at AE China in Suzhou, China (2009), and Senior Executive for Clipper and fabrication parts at Panasonic Singapore in Tuas, Singapore (2010-2011). In academia, he was Head of Diploma Programs in 2014 and a pioneer staff member who designed and developed teaching materials and activities for the Diploma of Instrumentation and Control Engineering (DICE), including Worksheet Instructional Manuals and instrument lists for the Loji Operation Instrument – CCS project.
Dr. Chew's research specializations include PID control and artificial intelligence, with a focus on optimization techniques for process control systems such as temperature, flow, and level control. Key publications encompass 'Genetic algorithm optimization analysis for temperature control system using cascade control loop model' in International Journal of Computing and Digital Systems (2020); 'A Study of Process Identification, Frequency Response Analysis and Optimum Proportional-Integral tunings for an Identified Temperature Control System' in Transactions on Science and Technology (2019); 'Frequency Response Analysis and Optimum Tuning for Temperature Control System' in Journal Online Jaringan Pengajian Seni Bina (JOJAPS) (2019); 'Optimized Computational Analysis of Feedforward plus Feedback Control Scheme uses Genetic Algorithm techniques for both Self-regulating and Integrating Process' in IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering (2019); 'Simulation of Process Identification and Tuning for Flow Control System' in IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering (2017); and 'Three-Element Control System Manipulation in Steam Generation for Palm Oil Industry' in Advanced Science Letters (2017). His contributions have garnered over 350 citations on Google Scholar. Dr. Chew received the Curtin Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2018, recognizing his outstanding contributions to teaching and learning at Curtin University.
