The award cited her for providing outstanding technical support to staff and students, embodying collaboration, understanding, and commitment to inclusive environments. In 2020, she was part of the eConferencing team—together with Jeff Ormandy, Jon Bracey, and Gemma Geddes—acknowledged at the University of Otago Appreciation Awards for offering outstanding, timely advice and support to students.
Inge Walgern also engages in photography, which she took up recently. She mainly uses it to document family memories, a practice she values more in recent years. Inspired by unique perspectives, she photographed the inside of a red tulip from her garden in spring 2017, capturing its detailed structure and ecological role in attracting bees for pollination. This image appeared in the 2019 Bulletin Photo Competition and was chosen for the University of Otago December 2020 Digital Calendar. She has further supported university activities as a contact for the 2022 Professional Staff Conference.
