Dr. Irena Hutton is the Gene Taylor/Bank of America Professor of Finance in the Department of Finance at Florida State University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Business. She also holds the positions of Director of the Truist Free Enterprise Center and Doctoral Program Coordinator for the Ph.D. in Finance. Hutton teaches financial management and valuation at undergraduate and graduate levels. Her research interests encompass corporate governance, corporate litigation, behavioral finance, litigation, equity offerings, and capital structure.
She earned a Ph.D. in Finance from Baruch College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York, in 2006; an MBA from the University of Southern Maine in 2001; a B.S. in Business Administration with a Finance concentration from the University of Southern Maine in 2000; and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Southern Maine in 1999. Professionally, Hutton has been an Associate Professor of Finance at Florida State University since 2014, following her tenure as Assistant Professor from 2006 to 2014. Earlier, she served as Substitute and Adjunct Instructor of Finance at Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College, from 2003 to 2006.
Her publications feature in top-tier journals including Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Financial Management. Hutton received the Oscar Lasdon Best Dissertation in Finance Award in 2006, multiple FSU College of Business Summer Research Grants from 2008 to 2013, FSU First Year Assistant Professor Summer Research Grants in 2007 and 2008, and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. She has served on dissertation committees, the FSU SunTrust Beach Conference program committee, and as faculty mentor for the MSF Student Organization.
