Dr. Irina Baimatova is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Curtin University and a consultant vascular surgeon at Royal Perth Hospital, St John of God Midland Hospital, and Hollywood Private Hospital. She is part of the Swan Vascular Group. Baimatova received her MBChB medical degree from the University of Liverpool in 2010 and completed her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2022. Her clinical practice emphasizes both minimally invasive endovascular techniques and open vascular surgeries, with a focus on personalized patient care to achieve optimal outcomes and facilitate swift recovery to normal activities.
During her training, Baimatova worked in hospitals across Australia and New Zealand, including Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane, gaining comprehensive experience in varied healthcare systems. In research, she is the principal investigator for the MAT trial at Royal Perth Hospital since 2022. Her publications include 'Syphilitic Popliteal Pseudoaneurysm Complicated by Acute Lower-Limb Ischemia' (Arasu, R., Baimatova, I., Cohen, T., Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, 2022), 'Endovascular Repair of a Traumatic Ascending Aortic Tear Injury' (Khashram, M., Baimatova, I., Laing, A., Blake, J., Khanafer, A., Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2017), 'The Use of Chest Radiography in Preoperative Assessment for Cardiac Surgery' (Baimatova, I., Singh, H., Heart, Lung and Circulation, 2017), and contributions to the IN.PACT AV Access Randomized Trial of drug-coated balloons for dysfunctional dialysis arteriovenous fistulas (Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2023). She has presented on off-the-shelf T-branch repair for emergent aortic pathology and serves as faculty for the Adelaide Vascular Trials Fellowship Exam Preparation course, contributing to surgical education and advancing vascular techniques.
