About Isaac

Professor Isaac Ajayi is the Vice-Chancellor of Wellspring University in Benin City, Nigeria, where he has served since 2021. A distinguished physicist specializing in radiation and health physics, he earned his BSc in Physics from the University of Ibadan, followed by an MSc and PhD in Radiation and Health Physics from the same institution. His academic career began as an Assistant Lecturer at Ondo State University (now Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko) in 1990, where he rose through the ranks to become Professor of Radiation and Health Physics in the Department of Physics and Electronics. At Adekunle Ajasin University, he held key administrative positions, including Head of Department (2000-2004 and 2005-2008), Dean of the Faculty of Science (2008-2010), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (2010-2014), and Acting Vice-Chancellor in 2014. Prior to his current role, he served as Vice-Chancellor of Crawford University from 2015 to 2020. Professor Ajayi has supervised four PhD theses, served as external examiner for postgraduate programs at several universities, and led National Universities Commission accreditation panels.

His research interests encompass radiation dosimetry, radioecology, and radiation transport. He has authored and co-authored over 75 publications in learned journals and written books such as Concise Mechanics for Scientists and Engineers and Basic Electricity and Magnetism. Professor Ajayi has presented at more than 45 academic conferences and workshops across Nigeria and internationally, including in the USA, UK, Israel, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Kenya, Namibia, and Ghana. He has secured numerous research grants, coordinated projects for the National Space Research and Development Agency, and facilitated the establishment of the Centre for Space, Energy, and Environmental Research at Adekunle Ajasin University in 2009. A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Physics, he is also a member of the Health Physics Society USA and other professional bodies. He benefited from a Federal Government postgraduate scholarship at the University of Ibadan in 1988, IAEA training at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Italy, and held visiting positions as a Regular Associate and Research Scientist there (2006-2013) and Research Associate at the Institute of Environmental Physics, University of Bremen, Germany (2005-2007).
