Ivana Kapráliková is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language within the Faculty of Applied Languages at the University of Economics in Bratislava, where she has served since 2012. Her work in Linguistics encompasses teaching Business English courses such as Professional English for Advanced, Negotiations in English, and Advanced English for Professionals. Prior to academia, from 2005 to 2010, she worked as a political advisor for the political group of independent members of the European Parliament in Brussels. In this role, she participated in meetings of parliamentary committees including the Committee on the Environment, Foreign Affairs, and the Subcommittee on Human Rights, and contributed to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. Kapráliková's research specializations include lexicology, the jargon of European Union institutions, critical discourse analysis of political rhetoric, and the didactics of the English language. She is the co-author of a university textbook on English grammar tailored for business English students.
Kapráliková earned a master's degree in English language and literature with a pedagogy focus from the Faculty of Education at Comenius University in Bratislava. In 2006, she obtained another master's degree in political science from Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. She completed her PhD in 2016 at the Faculty of Education, Comenius University in Bratislava, in the field of Didactics of Foreign Languages, with a dissertation entitled Lexical and Didactic Aspects of Abbreviations in the English Language. Her key publications include Abbreviations in Modern Business Correspondence and Their Pedagogical Implications (Casalc Review, 2022), Plagiarism in Political Culture: Political Discourse Analysis in the Context of Plagiarism Scandals of Selected European Politicians (2023), Investigating Specific Language Structures in the Documents of the European Union (EDAMBA 2015), and Vocabulary Dynamics in Business English Teaching (Overview of a Project Proposal) (2021). She served as co-researcher on a KEGA project examining the impact of a web application audioblog on listening comprehension and speaking skills in foreign language teaching and currently leads a KEGA project on innovative methods in teaching business negotiations in English. Kapráliková actively participates in the ERASMUS+ teacher mobility program, having delivered lectures on economics and finance topics at Neapolis University Paphos in Cyprus.
