Dr. Izzet Lofca is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Information, Library, and Research Sciences within the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His teaching includes courses such as Information Organization (301) and IST 304 Project Management in Information Organizations. Students in his classes engage in practical projects, including a partnership with the AmeriCorps Office of Human Capital to develop AI-enhanced training modules in fall 2024 and contributions to Digital Greensboro.
In September 2023, Lofca joined UNCG's first cohort awarded the Effective College Instruction Certification for excellence in teaching. He serves as a member of the General Education Council, contributing to curriculum reviews and policy discussions in meetings from 2023 through 2025. Lofca's professional expertise covers information technology, information management, information and communication technology, information analysis, information sharing, web science, information society, and information diffusion.
A key recent publication is his 2024 paper 'Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access Coverage in Technology-focused Courses,' which analyzes syllabi from technology-focused Master of Library and Information Science courses at ALA-accredited Eastern U.S. programs. The work evaluates coverage of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access principles per American Library Association Core Competences, addressing algorithmic bias, unconscious creator biases, and equitable technology remedies.
Earlier, Lofca completed a Master of Science in Criminal Justice at the University of North Texas in 2002, with the thesis 'A Case Study on Police Misconduct in the United States of America and an Applicable Model for the Turkish National Police.' His publications include works on democratic policing reforms and Turkish police recruitment. He has participated in Association for Information Science and Technology committees.
