Professor Shah J Miah serves as Professor of Business Analytics and Applied AI at Newcastle Business School, University of Newcastle, Australia, where he also holds the positions of Program Director for the Bachelor of Business Analytics and Director of Alumni Engagement. His academic background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Decision Support Systems from Griffith University, Master of Information Technology and Master of Information and Communication Technology from Griffith University, Bachelor of Science (Honours) and Master of Science from University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh, and Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education from Victoria University, Australia. Prior to his current appointment, Miah held academic positions at Victoria University in Melbourne, University of the Sunshine Coast, Griffith University, and James Cook University in Queensland. He maintains adjunct professorships at Victoria University, University of the Fiji, and Verandra University in Bangladesh, and engages in consulting and collaborative research with Australian business industries and national and international universities.
Miah's research focuses on artificial intelligence-oriented information systems, including AI-powered business processes, robotic automations for business improvement, human-machine teaming, ethical AI, explainable robotic solutions, data-driven decision systems, big data analytics, Industry 4.0, cyber-physical systems, Internet of Things, and applications in digital healthcare, supply chain, smart cities, and education. He has produced over 200 publications in top-tier outlets such as Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Information and Management, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, Information Technology and People, and Knowledge-Based Systems. Key works include the book 'Emerging Informatics: Innovative Concepts and Applications' (2012), and recent journal articles such as 'TRIAG: Tri-reinforced infused generative agents for financial risk compliance' (2026, with Sheikh R), 'Predicting student performance in a blended learning environment using learning management system interaction data' (2025, with Fahd K and Ahmed K), 'Extending application of explainable artificial intelligence for managers in financial organizations' (2025, with Sabharwal R, Wamba SF, and Cook P), and 'Understanding AI-enabled conversational agent customer experiences in religious tourism' (2025, with Alharbi A et al.).
