J. Patrick Neary is a Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology & Health Studies at the University of Regina, where he has held his position since 2005. He previously served on the faculty at the University of New Brunswick from 2002 to 2005 and at Malaspina University-College from 1990 to 2002. Neary holds a PhD, an MA in Exercise Physiology, and a BEd. His research focuses on the pathophysiology of sport-related concussion or mild traumatic brain injury, as well as integrative exercise physiology, including central and peripheral fatigue, cardiovascular function, and related mechanisms.
Neary has more than 27 years of academic and research experience in exercise physiology. He has supervised more than 15 master's and PhD students as primary supervisor and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed abstracts, papers, and book chapters. His work has received funding from agencies including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Department of National Defence. He served as Executive Director of the Dr. Paul Schwann Applied Health & Research Centre from 2006 to 2014 and is a member of the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment. Neary is a member in good standing of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and the European College of Sport Science.
