Associate Professor Jaafar Abduo is a specialist prosthodontist and researcher at the Melbourne Dental School, University of Melbourne, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. He earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) from the University of Otago, New Zealand, a PhD from the University of Western Australia in 2015 with a thesis titled 'Evaluation of Virtual Planning as a Tool for Prosthodontic Treatment,' and holds Membership of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in Prosthodontics (MRACDS Pros), awarded in 2011. Previously affiliated with the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Western Australia, Abduo now serves as Associate Professor in Prosthodontics and Senior Lecturer, convening the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Implants) and courses in Removable Prosthodontics. His academic career emphasizes teaching and clinical training in advanced prosthodontic techniques.
Abduo's research focuses on CAD/CAM dentistry, removable prosthodontics, and implant prosthodontics, with extensive laboratory and clinical investigations into digital workflows, framework fit, occlusion schemes, and restorative outcomes. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers, including highly cited systematic reviews such as 'Fit of screw-retained fixed implant frameworks fabricated by different methods: a systematic review' (2011), 'Impact of lateral occlusion schemes: A systematic review' (2015), 'Fits of implant zirconia custom abutments and frameworks: a systematic review and meta-analyses,' 'Current techniques for digital complete denture fabrication' (2020), and 'Longevity of ceramic onlays: A systematic review' (2018). His scholarship has amassed more than 5,965 citations on Google Scholar, achieving an h-index of 35 and i10-index of 56, demonstrating substantial influence in restorative dentistry and implantology. Abduo has secured research funding, including from the International Team for Implantology, and contributes to ongoing advancements in static computer-assisted implant surgery and virtual articulation accuracy.
