Dr. Jacquie Hutchinson is an Honorary Fellow in the UWA Business School, Department of Management and Organisations, and former lecturer and Coordinator of the Consortium for Diversity at Work (CDW). The CDW conducts research partnerships with business and government to examine contemporary work and its effects on men, women, and families, including hosting the international Engendering Leadership Conference that drew over 200 delegates from 13 countries. Beginning her career as a secondary school teacher of English and literature in Perth from 1977 to 1981, and Coordinator of the Integrated Secondary Aboriginal Student Project at Gnowangerup District High School from 1977 to 1979, she progressed through senior roles in education and industrial relations. These included Senior Vice President of the State School Teachers' Union (WA) from 1987 to 1990, Member of the Government School Teachers' Tribunal and Promotions Review and Advisory Board from 1985 to 1986, Manager of Equal Employment Opportunity and Deputy Director of Human Resource Management at Edith Cowan University from 1990 to 1996, and Executive Director of Human Resources at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation from 1996 to 2001. She returned to Perth to complete her PhD on workplace bullying and joined UWA academia in 2003.
Hutchinson's research interests encompass employee relations, leadership, organisational change, women and workplace diversity, workplace bullying, women and leadership, work-life balance, and employment relations. Notable publications include 'Rethinking workplace bullying as an employment relations problem' (2012), 'Workplace bullying policy in the Australian public sector: why has gender been ignored?' (2010, with J. Eveline), 'Leadership in Local Government: No Girls Allowed' (2014, with E. Walker and F. H. McKenzie), 'Recruiting CEOs in Local Government: A Game of Musical Chairs?' (2017, with E. Walker and F. H. McKenzie), and 'Self-employment: is it a long-term financial strategy for women?' (2017, with J. Redmond and E. A. Walker). She has obtained funding for projects such as leadership in local government, retirement planning for women small business owners, and workplace bullying under the Fair Work Act. Hutchinson coordinates postgraduate courses in managing workplace diversity and strategic workplace relations, and undergraduate managing diversity, contributing to equity and inclusion in human resources education and practice.
