Great Professor!
James Bullock is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Melbourne, where he joined in late 2018. He heads the Electronic Materials and Devices (EMaD) Laboratory and serves as Deputy Program Leader for the Energy Materials program at the Melbourne Energy Institute. His primary research interest is inorganic material photovoltaics, encompassing novel optoelectronic devices realized through materials innovation. This work involves the fabrication and characterization of devices in photovoltaics, 2D materials, and photodetectors. Bullock's expertise contributes to advancements in silicon photovoltaics and related technologies.
Bullock completed his PhD at the Australian National University as an ARENA Fellow, undertaking the final 18 months at the University of California, Berkeley supported by the AAA Fellowship in 2014. Subsequently, he held a postdoctoral position in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences department at Berkeley and served as a postdoctoral affiliate at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory until moving to Melbourne. His research has had substantial impact, as reflected in highly cited publications such as 'Passivating contacts for crystalline silicon solar cells' (Nature Energy, 2019), 'Efficient silicon solar cells with dopant-free asymmetric heterocontacts' (Nature Energy, 2016), 'Polarization-resolved black phosphorus/molybdenum disulfide mid-wave infrared photodiodes with high detectivity at room temperature' (Nature Photonics, 2018), 'Solution-Synthesized High-Mobility Tellurium Nanoflakes for Short-Wave Infrared Photodetectors' (ACS Nano, 2018), and 'A wearable microfluidic sensing patch for dynamic sweat secretion analysis' (ACS Sensors, 2018). Notable awards include the ARENA Fellowship and AAA Fellowship.
