About James

James Sturm is the Stephen R. Forrest Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Princeton University and serves as Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is also associated faculty in the Princeton Materials Institute, which he founded. Sturm earned a B.S.E. in Electrical Engineering (engineering physics) from Princeton University in 1979, an M.S.E.E. from Stanford University in 1981, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1985.

His research focuses on the physics and technology of semiconductor devices for microelectronics and large-area electronics, including silicon-based heterostructures and three-dimensional integration, organic semiconductors, and technologies for flat panel and flexible displays. Sturm has received numerous honors, including election as an IEEE Fellow in 2001, the President's Distinguished Teaching Award from Princeton University in 2004, induction into the New Jersey High Tech Hall of Fame in 2008, fellowship in the National Academy of Inventors in 2019, and the Engineering Faculty Distinguished Service Award. He maintains an active lab advancing micronanofabricated technologies for electronics applications.
