Kristina-Maria Jamiema Lorimer completed her Master of Arts degree at the University of Otago in 2023 within the School of Performing Arts, academic unit of Music. Her master's thesis, titled "'Karma is STFU!': Challenging representations of Asian femininity in pop culture through the pop music of Rina Sawayama and Alice Longyu Gao," was supervised by Dr. Jennifer Cattermole. The research examines how contemporary Asian pop artists challenge stereotypes and representations of Asian femininity through their music and pop culture expressions. This work contributes to discussions on cultural representations in popular music.
At the University of Otago, Jamiema Lorimer holds the position of News Manager for Radio One 91FM, the student radio station operated under the Otago University Students' Association (OUSA), listed as an external organisation. She has been involved in student media, serving as a staff writer for Critic Te Ārohi, the independent student magazine of the University of Otago, where she covered topics related to music, arts, and local culture. Her journalistic work reflects interests aligned with her academic research in pop music and cultural studies.
