Dr. Jane Hunter is an Industry Fellow in the Faculty of Design and Society at the University of Technology Sydney, appointed in March 2026. Previously, she served as an Associate Professor in the School of International Studies and Education within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at UTS since 2016. Earlier in her career, from 2010 to 2016, she was a Lecturer at Western Sydney University. With nearly 30 years of teaching experience, Hunter began as a high school classroom teacher and head teacher. She holds a PhD from Western Sydney University (2013), for which she received the Beth Southwell Research Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis from the NSW Institute for Educational Research in 2014, an M.Ed (Hons) from the University of Sydney, a Graduate Diploma in Education, and a B.A. Her academic trajectory reflects a strong commitment to teacher education across university and school settings.
Hunter's research specializations encompass pedagogy, technology-enhanced learning, teacher professional learning, curriculum development, and integrated STEM/STEAM education within the Social Science domain. She developed the High Possibility Classrooms pedagogical framework, promoting technology integration, experiential learning, and teacher agency, applied in Australian secondary and primary schools through action research. Key publications include her books 'Technology Integration and High Possibility Classrooms: Building from TPACK' (Routledge, 2015) and 'High Possibility STEM Classrooms: Integrated STEM Learning in Research and Practice' (Routledge, 2021). Notable journal articles feature 'High Possibility Classrooms as a pedagogical framework for technology integration in classrooms' (Technology, Pedagogy and Education, 2017) and 'STEM, STEAM & the Spaces Between' (Journal of Research in STEM Education, 2019). In 2019, the Australian Research Council awarded her research HIGH IMPACT status in the Engagement and Impact Assessment. She has garnered numerous national and international awards for outstanding contributions to student learning. Hunter co-hosts the 'Talking Teachers' podcast with Associate Professor Don Carter and actively presents at conferences as part of UTS's Life-wide Learning and Education Research Group, influencing practitioner development globally.
