About Jane

Professor Jane Page OAM is a Professor of Early Childhood Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne, serving as Associate Director of Pedagogy and Leadership Research in the REEaCh Centre (Research in Effective Education in Early Childhood) within the Melbourne Graduate School of Education. She holds a Doctor of Education and possesses over 35 years of professional experience in the early childhood sector, including positions as a director and teacher in early childhood services, alongside teaching and research roles at universities. Her research specializations include early childhood education, teacher effectiveness, coaching, educational leadership, children's perspectives, quality pedagogy, evidence-based interventions for vulnerable children, and the application of human rights principles in early childhood settings.

Professor Page has made significant contributions through leadership in various projects collaborating with state and local governments, the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, and other entities. Key initiatives encompass the 2011 Victorian Framework Implementation: Early Years Learning and Development Outcomes Project, the 2012 Assessment for Learning Project, the 2013 Inquiry to Implementation Project, and Research Adviser roles for the VCAA's Assessment for Learning Early Years Networks Project and Leading Assessment for Learning and Development: A Communities of Practice Project (2015-2019). She served as Operations Manager for the Victorian Advancing Early Learning Project with the Department of Education and City of Moonee Valley and Hume City Council (2013-2016), Lead Chief Investigator on the ARC Linkage Grant Building a Bridge into Preschool in Remote Northern Territory, and Lead Researcher on the Families as First Teachers On-line Coaching Study with the Northern Territory Department of Education. Presently, she collaborates with the REEaCh Centre, ARC colleagues, and the Victorian Department of Education and Training to develop a Teaching Tool for Kindergartens. Her scholarly output includes publications such as 'Implementing 3-Year-Old Kindergarten in Victoria: Teachers’, Educators’ and Directors’ Perspectives' (2025), 'Coaching for early childhood educators: exploring pathways of learning and change' (2025), 'Supporting Young Children’s Social–Emotional Wellbeing in Early Childhood Education and Care: Perspectives from the Sector' (2025), 'Identifying the theoretical foundations of coaching as a form of ongoing professional development in early childhood education: a meta-narrative review' (2024), and 'Profiles of Professional Wellbeing and Turnover Intentions Among Australian Early Childhood Educators' (2024). She received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2019 for service to education and the Aurelio Peccei Prize in 1996 and 2001 from L'Eta Verde for work on futures education and children's rights. In 2018, she participated in the National Children's Commissioner's Melbourne Roundtable, informing Australia's Children’s Rights Report.
