Mrs. Shapiro was a Columbia graduate with a specialty in Russian Soviet history and politics. She provided me an interest and framework for analyzing Soviet/Russian events from 1967 to the present a valuable tool in one engaged in public work for many years. She was young and so was I so her lectures were current, open not lifted from old files. She was interested in her work and not tied to the negative suspicious outlook on the area. Memorable . Jane Shapiro Zacek served as Professor of Political Science at Manhattanville College, now known as Manhattanville University. Her work focused on Soviet and Russian politics and history. She held a visiting professorship at the National War College. Zacek later served as Executive Assistant to the Governor. She edited the volume The Gorbachev Generation: Issues in Soviet Foreign Policy, published in 1988, and contributed to publications on politics and participation under Communist rule.
