Janset Özün Çetinkaya is a Teaching Associate in Philosophy at the University of Nottingham in the Faculty of Arts. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Nottingham, an MLitt in Philosophy from the University of St Andrews, an MA in Philosophy from Dokuz Eylül University, and a BA in Philosophy from Pamukkale University. Prior to her current full-time role, she served as a Teaching Affiliate in Theology and Religious Studies from 2022 to 2023 and in Philosophy from 2021 to 2022. Since 2023, she has been the Deputy Admissions Officer for Philosophy.
Her areas of specialization include Aristotle and Ancient Greek Philosophy, with additional competencies in Classical Chinese Philosophy, comparative philosophies and religions, and the ethics of artificial intelligence. Her research focuses on virtue, character, friendship, and the ethics and metaphysics of human flourishing in Aristotle and his contemporary receptions, extending also to Confucianism, Daoism, and Islamic existentialism, with recent explorations of love, justice, and moral partiality across ancient Greek and South and East Asian traditions. She has published work including a 2014 article titled “Karl Popper’ın Yönteminde Hipotetik-Dedüktif Formun Bilimsel İnşası” in the Pamukkale University Journal of Social Sciences Institute and the forthcoming chapter “Aristotle, Maternal Partiality and Obligations” in The Routledge Handbook of Philosophy and the Family. She has redesigned and taught modules across philosophical traditions, ethics, and metaphysics, incorporating cross-cultural content, and is currently teaching Classical Chinese Philosophy and Philosophy in the Contemporary World.
