Jasmine Millar serves as the Manager Events in the Marketing Services team, part of the External Engagement Division at the University of Otago, located in Room G33 of the Clocktower Building in Dunedin. She leads a comprehensive events team comprising team leaders, specialist events staff, coordinators, and assistants. The team's responsibilities encompass the full event lifecycle: conceptualization, planning, logistics coordination, on-the-day support, and post-event evaluation, specifically for university-owned events that support strategic priorities such as undergraduate recruitment. Millar has played a pivotal role in high-profile university initiatives. In 2020, as Otago Events Manager, she spearheaded the first Virtual Open Day on 23 July, featuring over 100 filmed academic and pastoral presentations, live chats, scholarship details, and introductions to residential colleges and the Locals programme, ensuring accessibility for prospective students unable to attend in person. She emphasized, “The University was determined to provide a worthwhile experience for prospective students and their families as they got a taste of what Otago life has to offer.” For subsequent Open Days, including those in 2025, she introduced innovations like the Open Days app for personalized schedules, challenges, and information, alongside a central Student Experience Zone on the Union Lawn with live music, performances, kai, and giveaways. Earlier, in 2019 as University Hospitality Events Supervisor, she advanced sustainability by promoting reusable cups at campus cafés, implementing discounts, and launching cup libraries to divert around 1,400 disposable cups from landfill weekly. Additionally, she is the designated contact for the Conference Assistance Programme, supporting bids to host international conferences at the university.
