Jason Beech is an Associate Professor in Global Policies in Education at the Faculty of Education, University of Melbourne, where he also serves as Assistant Dean (Sustainability). He earned his PhD in Comparative Education from the Institute of Education, University of London in 2005, supported by a Postgraduate Research Scholarship from the same institution in 2001. Beech joined the University of Melbourne in February 2023. Previously, he was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, Culture and Society, Faculty of Education at Monash University. He holds a visiting professorship at Universidad de San Andrés in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he directs a UNESCO Chair in Education for Sustainability and Global Citizenship.
Beech's research examines spatial theorizing in comparative and international education, the circulation of educational discourse across space, global mobilities and cosmopolitan curriculum, actor-network theory in comparative education, education governance and infrastructures of schooling, policy mobilities in federal systems, and the influence of international organizations such as UNESCO, the World Bank, and OECD on education futures. His studies frequently address Latin American contexts, including Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, and Costa Rica. Notable publications include 'Stretching spatial theories in comparative education: new approaches for challenging times' (Comparative Education, 2024), the co-edited volume 'Latin American Scholars of Comparative Education: Examining the Work and Influence of Notable 19th and 20th Century Comparativists' (Routledge, 2023), ''Promises promises': international organisations, promissory legitimacy and the re-negotiation of education futures' with Susan L. Robertson (2023), 'Actor-Network-Theory and Comparative and International Education: Addressing the Complexity of Socio-Material Foundations of Power in Education' (2021), 'Spatial Theorizing in Comparative and International Education Research' (2014), and 'Education governance and the infrastructures of schooling: the making of an eco-school in rural Argentina' (2025). He has guest-edited special issues, including on global policy mobilities in federal education systems (Education Policy Analysis Archives, 2023), and received the 2025 MERI Research Development Funding Scheme award.
