Jason Catterson serves as Lab Demonstrator in the Department of Biology at Langara College. In this capacity, he teaches laboratory sessions for courses that include Cell Biology, Introduction to Genetics, Molecular Genetics, and Anatomy & Physiology. These courses form part of the curriculum in the Biology department at the college.
Jason Catterson completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, specializing in Cell and Molecular Biology, at Simon Fraser University in 2000. He also obtained a Certificate in Liberal Arts from Simon Fraser University in the same year. Subsequently, he pursued graduate studies and earned a Master of Science degree in Biology with an emphasis on Microbiology from Simon Fraser University in 2008. The title of his master's thesis is 'Examining the early transcriptome of the fungal pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus in response to iron limitation imposed by human serum.' This research involved studying the initial changes in gene expression profiles of the pathogen under iron-restricted conditions representative of the human host serum environment. Catterson's stated research interests are Microbiology and Cell/Molecular Biology. He has contributed as a co-author to publications in the area of public health and immunization. One such publication is 'Immunization delivery in British Columbia: Perspectives of primary care physicians,' by Omura J, Buxton J, Kaczorowski J, Catterson J, Li J, Derban A, and Hasselback P, published in 2014 by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Another is 'Who knows more about immunization? Survey of public health nurses and physicians,' published in Canadian Family Physician, volume 59, issue 11, pages e514-e521, in 2013. In these works, Catterson is affiliated as an MSc holder and Instructor in the Department of Biology at Langara College.
