Jason Lee Resler serves as Department Chair and Associate Professor of Theatre at Indiana University South Bend within the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts, Department of Theatre and Dance. Holding a BA from Western Michigan University and an MFA from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, he specializes in costume design. Prior to his current role, Resler was costume shop manager and resident costume designer at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. His extensive professional experience includes designing costumes for prominent theatre companies such as the Guthrie Theater’s Dowling Studio in Minneapolis, MN; Citadel Theatre Company in Lake Forest, IL; Cortland Repertory Theatre in Cortland, NY; Hope Summer Repertory Theatre in Holland, MI; Phoenix Theatre in Phoenix, AZ; Commonweal Theatre Company in Lanesboro, MN; Idaho Shakespeare Festival in Boise; and Great Lakes Theatre Festival in Cleveland, OH. He has also designed for Park Square Theatre, Minnesota Centennial Showboat, History Theatre, Illusion Theatre, Time Track Productions, and Minneapolis Musical Theatre in the St. Paul and Minneapolis areas. Additionally, Resler co-designs costumes for The Medora Musical produced by Stagewest Entertainment for TRMF in Medora, ND, and has created costumes for Trollwood Performing Arts in Fargo/Moorhead, MN; Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, MA; Drury Lane Theatre in Chicago; Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus; The Acting Company in New York; and Disney on Ice tours.
At Indiana University South Bend, Resler teaches a range of courses including THTR-A190 Introduction to Theatre, THTR-T190 Play Structure and Analysis, THTR-T228 Design for the Theatre, THTR-T249 Drafting and Color Media, THTR-T330 Rendering, THTR-T339 Costume Design 1, THTR-T433 Costume Design 2, THTR-T434 Historic Costumes for the Stage, and THTR-T449 Profession of Theatre Design. He has been honored with the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award. Resler’s publications include the book Medora Musical - The First Fifty Years (ISBN: 978-0-9892709-1-5) and a feature on Design Expo: La Cage aux Folies in Theatre Design and Technology Magazine. A member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) and the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), he connects IUSB students to internships at The Medora Musical and Trollwood Performing Arts.
