Rate My Professor Jaswant Singh

Dr. Jaswant Singh is a professor in the Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. He earned his BVSc and AH in 1983 and MVSc in 1986 from Punjab Agricultural University in India, followed by a PhD from the University of Saskatchewan in 1997. He joined the University of Saskatchewan faculty in 2000. Dr. Singh serves as Associate Dean of Academic Excellence and Innovation in the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and as Chair of the Division of Biomedical Engineering. His teaching expertise includes microscopic anatomy and reproductive science, with a focus on ovarian follicle and oocyte development as well as early embryonic development. He has taught microscopic and gross anatomy to veterinary students since 1999 and has supervised or co-supervised numerous graduate and undergraduate students along with postdoctoral fellows and visiting faculty.

Dr. Singh’s research centers on factors influencing oocyte competence and the developmental potential of oocytes into embryos, utilizing the bovine model of maternal reproductive aging to study ovarian function relevant to humans. His work examines ultrasonographic, morphologic, biochemical, and endocrine aspects of ovarian follicles to refine breeding programs in beef cattle and support assisted reproduction. He has secured continuous NSERC Discovery Grant funding for over two decades, along with support from other agencies, and has published more than 135 peer-reviewed articles and reviews, over 200 abstracts, and delivered numerous invited presentations. Dr. Singh holds appointments on university councils and committees, serves as a research mentor, and contributes to professional service in his field. He has co-directed continuing education workshops on reproductive ultrasonography and embryo transfer.
