Jean Davison, DNP, FNP-BC, FAAN, is a Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing within Health Science. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner with a focus on community-oriented primary care at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2000 and earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Duke University in 2012. Additionally, she holds a Post-Master Certificate in Nursing Education from Duke University. Davison's extensive career includes over two decades as a Family Nurse Practitioner in federally qualified community health centers, providing primary care to underserved populations. Since 2006, she has served on the UNC faculty, advancing to Clinical Associate Professor in 2017 and Professor. She is the Medical Director and lead Family Nurse Practitioner of the UNC School of Nursing Mobile Health Clinic, a free nurse-led initiative delivering care at food pantries across North Carolina, which earned a Gold Rating from the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics in 2023 and 2024. Davison leads interprofessional education and practice efforts, training more than 600 nurses and allied health professionals, and serves as a Public Health Consultant on a $1.2 million HRSA grant focused on simulation education for underserved and rural communities.
Davison is president of Compassion Med International, leading global health missions to Honduras, Nicaragua, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Sierra Leone, and the West Bank, as well as U.S. disaster responses. She volunteered with the NC Farmworkers Health Program during the COVID-19 pandemic for screening and vaccinations. Her major honors include election as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2024, the Dr. Julie Byerley Award for Faculty Excellence in Interprofessional Education and Practice in 2024, the National League for Nursing Isabel Hampton Robb Award for Outstanding Leadership in Clinical Practice in 2021, the UNC Provost Engaged Scholarship Award for Engaged Teaching in 2018, and the AANP Advocate State Award in 2018. Key publications encompass book chapters like Primary Care Funding, Systems, and Principles of Quality and Safety (2023, 2017) and peer-reviewed articles such as Robust interprofessional clinical education and practice to improve health equity (Journal of Medical & Clinical Nursing, 2024), Screening for the social determinants of health (Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2023), and Hypertension self-management support in primary care (Athens Journal of Health & Medical Sciences, 2016). She teaches DNP and MSN courses, including Enhanced Role RN Physical Assessment of Adults and STD Training.
