Jeewaka Perera serves as Lecturer at Curtin Colombo, Curtin University, and as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computing at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT). He earned his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, along with a Minor in Mathematics, from California State University, Fresno, USA. Perera's career trajectory includes a Student Developer Internship at the Innovations Hub of California State University, Fresno from October 2018 to June 2020, where he contributed to student developer initiatives. Subsequently, he worked as Assistant Lecturer at the University of Colombo School of Computing from March to June 2021. Since June 2021, he has held the position of Lecturer, advancing to Senior Lecturer, at SLIIT Faculty of Computing. Concurrently, from March 2021 to the present, he acts as Editorial Assistant for the ICTer Journal, supporting academic publishing in information and communication technology.
Perera's academic interests center on Deep Reinforcement Learning, Machine Learning, Neural Network Architectures, and Multi-Objective Optimization. His ongoing research focuses on Multi-Objective Combinatorial Optimization Using Multi-Objective Deep Graph Reinforcement Learning. He supervises MSc research students at SLIIT's Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence. Perera has co-authored publications such as Advanced Student Monitoring System for Physical Classes Using Machine Learning (2023, IEEE) and Wet-Neuromorphic Computing: A New Paradigm for Brain-Inspired Computing (2025, IEEE Computer). Additionally, he participated in the ICAC 2025 Pre-Conference Workshop at Curtin University Colombo, moderating a panel on the future of computing, AI, quantum computing, and tech innovation with academics including Professor Jeff Brooks from Curtin University Perth and Anjalie Gamage from Curtin University Colombo. Through these roles, Perera contributes to advancing computer science education and research in artificial intelligence and related fields.
