Rate My Professor Jeff Holst

Professor Jeff Holst is a Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of New South Wales. He holds a BSc (Hons) and PhD from UNSW. Professor Holst serves as Director of Engagement in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Director of the Adult Cancer Program. He is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Committee of the UNSW Cancer Theme. In addition to his research leadership, he teaches in Pharmacology, delivering lectures, tutorials, and practicals on cancer therapeutics for the courses PHAR3251 and PHAR3111.

Professor Holst leads the Translational Cancer Metabolism Laboratory, where his research focuses on developing new ways to profile and target metabolic pathways in melanoma, glioblastoma, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. His work has centred on the uptake and metabolism of amino acids by cancer cells and their integration with glucose metabolism to drive cell growth. The laboratory has developed novel methods, including 3D explant models, for exploring these metabolic processes through metabolomics and therapeutic development. Professor Holst has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on topics such as glutamine transport, macropinocytosis in breast cancer, and metabolic adaptations in prostate cancer.
