Jeffrey Collins, Ph.D., is Senior Lecturer of Interdisciplinary Studies at Oglethorpe University, a position he has held as part of the Arts and Culture faculty for over 30 years. He earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Baylor University and his Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Arlington. Collins is a highly prolific author with 14 published books to his credit. His latest work, “Psalms in an Evolving Cosmos,” released in early 2026, is a collection of poems and prayers that celebrate the beauty of the cosmos and the continuous evolution of all things. He is preparing the release of his 15th book, “The Refractive Universe,” scheduled for April 2026. Through his writing, Collins bridges faith, science, and poetic reflection, contributing meaningfully to interdisciplinary scholarship and creative expression.
In his career at Oglethorpe University, Collins has been actively involved in art history and fine arts education, teaching courses such as Italian Art History and delivering lectures on topics including Italian Futurists at the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art and the resilience of Notre Dame Cathedral. He previously served as Director of Oglethorpe University Students Abroad (OUSA), organizing and leading study abroad programs to Rome, Greece, and other European destinations, fostering global learning and cultural immersion for students. Collins has co-led short-term study abroad trips, such as to Greece with Professor Alan Loehle, and recommended students for scholarships like those from the Southeastern Pastel Society. His dedication to service and community-building was honored in 2024 with a recognition for 30 years of excellence at the university. Additionally, he participates in events like the Liberal Arts and Sciences Symposium, showcasing student and faculty scholarly work. Collins continues to shape conversations in arts, culture, and interdisciplinary studies through his teaching, administrative roles, and publications.
