About Jennifer

Jennifer Anderson is the University Mediator at the University of Otago, operating from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor in Dunedin. She also holds the position of Manager, Facilitation and Mediation within the Staff Support Team of Healthy Campus. Jennifer has a background in mediation, particularly working with families, and as a lawyer specialising in family and mental health law. Her keen interest in helping people resolve conflict underpins her professional approach. She is listed in the university's staff directory and is available to travel to other campuses such as Christchurch and Wellington at short notice to provide support. Her role is integral to the university's efforts in maintaining ethical behaviour and positive interactions among staff and students.

The mediation services led by Jennifer Anderson are informal processes aimed at resolving problems and differences early. Participation is voluntary, and the process is strictly confidential with no records kept to protect privacy. Parties collaborate with the mediator to communicate constructively, understand each other's perspectives, collaborate effectively, and develop practical solutions. These services address workplace issues, interpersonal disputes, and other conflicts, and are recommended in university documents such as the Trainee Intern Handbook for informal confidential discussions, the Ethical Behaviour Policy panel discussions, departmental reviews, and OUSA affiliated clubs policies. Jennifer can be met on campus, by phone, or via Zoom. She is located at G09 Scott Shand House, contactable at +64 3 479 5679 or mediation@otago.ac.nz.
