Jennifer G. Andrews is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Morehouse College, a position she has held since 2013, initially as Visiting Assistant Professor from 2013 to 2019. Prior to joining Morehouse, she served as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Stephens College from 2011 to 2013. Earlier roles include Psychological Specialist in the Department of Psychiatry at Emory University Medical School from 2009 to 2010, Trainee Clinician at the V.A. Medical Center in Atlanta in 2009, and various research positions at Emory University and Georgia State University. Dr. Andrews earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from Emory University in 2011, with a dissertation titled Birth narratives as indicators of psychosocial functioning in adolescents and families. She also holds an M.A. in Psychology from Emory University in 2007, an M.A. with Distinction in History of Art from University College London in 2003, and a B.A. with Highest Honors in English and Art History, dual major, from Emory University in 2001.
Dr. Andrews' academic interests and research specializations include personality psychology, art psychology, narrative psychology, and environmental psychology. Her publications feature Andrews, J., Fivush, R., Zaman, W., Merril, N., & Duke, M. (2016). Gender differences in adolescent birth narratives, Journal of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition; Andrews, J., Lilienfeld, S., & Duke, M. (2013). An animal model of compulsive hoarding in humans, Review of General Psychology, 17, 399-419; and Andrews-McClymont, J. (2008). The Place of Psychotherapy, Voices: The art and science of Psychotherapy, 44. Manuscripts in preparation include Assessing gender differences and well-being in birth narratives for HBCU students (2023) and Birding Benefits: Implications for Mental Health, Equity, and Conservation (2023). She has presented at conferences such as the Association for Psychological Science (2017-2022), American Psychological Association (2019), and Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (2017-2019) on topics including gender differences in storytelling, autobiographical narratives and well-being in HBCU students, and aesthetic experiences. Dr. Andrews holds committee roles including member of the AUC Research Day Symposium, Morehouse Library Advisory Council, and co-advisor for Psi Chi. She serves as an executive board member of the Georgia Psychological Society and editorial board member for Challenge journal published by Morehouse College. Honors include McNair Research Mentor Certificate of Achievement from Morehouse College, Emory Scholar, Goodrich C. White Academic Scholarship, and selection as an undergraduate candidate for the Rhodes Scholarship, Fulbright Scholarship, and others.
