The narrative, inspired by the prompt 'Being and Belonging' and a road trip past her grandmother's old house and farm in Central Otago, explores themes of family dynamics, personal reminiscence, belonging, and the rocky scenery of Alexandra. Haugh credits enrolling in the ENGL475 Reading and Writing Crime Fiction paper for reigniting her passion for writing, providing the motivation to enter the competition.
