Dr. Jennifer Krawec serves as Department Chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning and Associate Professor of Professional Practice in the University of Miami's School of Education and Human Development. She has been a faculty member at the University of Miami since 2012, starting as a Research Assistant Professor and progressing to Assistant Professor of Practice (2017-2022), Department Associate Chair (2020-2024), and her current positions since 2022 and 2024. Before joining Miami, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling, Leadership, and Special Education at Missouri State University from 2010 to 2012. Earlier in her career, Krawec worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Miami (2007-2010) and as an Inclusive Education Teacher and Associate Teacher in Miami-Dade County Public Schools (2004-2005). She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education and Psychology (2004), an M.S. in Education focusing on Special Education and Reading (2008), and a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis in Special Education (2010), all from the University of Miami.
Krawec's research interests include mathematics problem-solving interventions for students with and without learning disabilities, cognitive strategy instruction, problem representation in mathematical problem solving, inclusive education, and special education practices in mathematics and reading. She is the author of the book Solve It! Teaching mathematical problem solving in inclusive classrooms: Grades 5-6 (2015, with C. Warger). Notable peer-reviewed publications encompass "Inquiry-based instruction in mathematics for students with learning disabilities: A review of the literature" (Learning Disabilities: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2019, with M. Steinberg), "Modifying a research-based problem-solving intervention to improve the problem-solving performance of younger students with and without learning disabilities" (Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2017, with J. Huang), "The effects of cognitive strategy instruction on math problem solving of seventh-grade students of varying ability" (Journal of Educational Psychology, 2013, with M. Montague, C. Enders, and S. Dietz), and "Problem representation and mathematical problem solving of students of varying math ability" (Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2014). Her work has earned recognition including the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame induction (2019), the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities Award for Outstanding Doctoral Level Research (2012), and the CEC Division for Learning Disabilities Dissertation Award (2010). Currently, she directs the M.S. in Special Education program and chairs the University Curriculum Committee.
