About Jérôme
Dr. Jérôme Gippet is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Lausanne. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Lyon in 2016, with a dissertation on patterns of distribution, human-mediated dispersal, and intraspecific variations in urbanized landscapes, focusing on ant responses to urbanization. Prior to his doctorate, he completed a Master of Science in Ecology, Evolution, and Biometry and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology of Organisms and Populations, both at the University of Lyon.
His research centers on understanding and predicting how human activities influence the distributions of plant and animal species, with particular emphasis on human-mediated dispersal, urbanization effects on native and invasive ants, and the global pet trade in ants. Key contributions include a 2021 paper in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences demonstrating that invasive species achieve greater commercial success in the pet trade. He has held his current postdoctoral position at the University of Lausanne since 2019, working under Dr. Cleo Bertelsmeier.
