Hongmin (Jess) Yan is a Lecturer in Human Resources Management in the School of Business at UNSW Canberra, University of New South Wales. She holds a PhD in Management from The University of Queensland, a Master in Business from Queensland University of Technology, a Master in Public Administration from the University of Delaware, and a Bachelor in Economics from Fudan University. Prior to her current appointment, she was a recipient of the 2024 Griffith University Postdoctoral Fellowship. Yan has also received the 2020 Global Change Scholars Award at The University of Queensland and the 2019 Australian Government Research Training Program and UQ Postgraduate Research Scholarship. She teaches courses in human resources development.
Her research focuses on ethical and responsible technology use, including the effects of AI and robotics on organizational practices and employee wellbeing; workplace wellbeing in response to stressors such as customer mistreatment; and ethical decision-making processes in organizations. Funded projects include Tourism Workforce Crisis Recovery and Resilience (Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowships), Enacting Safety Culture Change (Eastern Health, Australia), Brisbane Valley Railway Trail Visitor Experience (Department of Transport & Main Roads, Australia, and Somerset Regional Council), and Service Safety Leadership (SkyCity Entertainment Group, New Zealand). Her work highlights how AI can diffuse responsibility, facilitating unethical pro-organizational behavior.
