Dr. Jessica Yi (she/her) is a Lecturer in Accounting in the School of Accounting and Finance, College of Business and Law at Adelaide University. She currently serves as a course coordinator for Financial Accounting 2 and Contemporary Issues in Accounting at UniSA Business. Holding a PhD in credit risk assessment in financial instruments and a Master by Research from the University of Adelaide, Jessica possesses substantial expertise in accounting. With more than a decade of teaching experience across multiple Australian universities, including the University of Adelaide and University of South Australia, she has focused her academic career on developing high-quality, engaging courses tailored for second- and third-year accounting students in on-campus, online, and international formats. Her teaching philosophy is centered on the role of academics as facilitators who provide learning opportunities and guidance to enhance student learning.
Jessica's research spans credit risk assessment and accounting education. Her principal research interests include the prediction of financial distress, such as loan default and corporate bankruptcy, as well as innovation in accounting education and student career readiness. In her PhD thesis, she applied an innovative interdisciplinary technique to identify relevant predictors and better explain the characteristics of loan defaulting firms. She actively incorporates analytical and artificial intelligence methods into accounting education and collaborates with industry partners to improve career readiness outcomes. Jessica's passion for teaching is evident in her efforts to boost student engagement and learning abilities, which has been recognized through high student satisfaction rates.
