About Jiangshan

Jiangshan Yu is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney, where he serves as Director of University Collaboration and Director of the Sydney Blockchain Centre. Previously, he held positions as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at Monash University, including as Research Director of the Monash Blockchain Technology Centre from 2020 to 2024. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Birmingham in the UK, supervised by Prof. Mark Ryan, followed by a postdoctoral position with Prof. Paulo Esteves-Verissimo at the University of Luxembourg. Yu is also the Australian Representative for the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Technical Committee 10 on Computer Systems Technology, an elected member of IFIP Working Group 10.4 on Dependable Computing and Fault Tolerance, and a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

His research focuses on blockchain systems and applications, fault tolerance and consensus algorithms, security protocols, applied cryptography, and user privacy. Yu addresses real-world challenges in building practical systems that prioritize dependability, trust, security, privacy, and scalability by leveraging dependable computing, decentralized systems, cryptography, and security protocols. His contributions have advanced the resilience and performance of blockchain systems and services, with findings adopted by major blockchains such as Ethereum, Monero, Nervos, and NEO, and have supported governments in digital transformation and cybercrime investigations. Notable awards include the IEEE/IFIP Rising Star in Dependability Award (2026), ACS Fellowship (2025), IEEE Technical Achievement Award from TEMS TC on Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies (2024), ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Award at Internetware'24 (2024), Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) from the Australian Research Council (2021), and multiple best paper awards at IEEE PRDC 2024, NSS 2022, and Blockchain 2021-2022. Key publications encompass 'Pallas and Aegis: Rollback Resilience in TEE-Aided Blockchain Consensus' (NDSS 2026), 'Achilles: Efficient TEE-Assisted BFT Consensus via Rollback Resilient Recovery' (ACM EuroSys 2025), 'DAMYSUS: Streamlined BFT Consensus Leveraging Trusted Components' (ACM EuroSys 2022), 'BlindHub: Bitcoin-Compatible Privacy-Preserving Payment Channel Hubs Supporting Variable Amounts' (IEEE S&P 2023), and 'TxAllo: Dynamic Transaction Allocation in Sharded Blockchain Systems' (IEEE ICDE 2023). His scholarship has amassed over 3,650 citations with an h-index of 31 according to Google Scholar.
