Professor Jianmin Jiang is a Distinguished Chair Professor and Director of the Research Institute for Future Media Computing at the College of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Shenzhen University. He earned his PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK, in 1994, MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Beijing Graduate School of China University of Mining and Technology in 1984, and BSc in Electrical Engineering from Shandong Mining Institute in 1981. His distinguished career includes positions as Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Loughborough University, UK (1994-1997); Chair Professor of Computing and Associate Head of School for Research at the University of Glamorgan, UK (1997-2002); Chair Professor of Digital Media and Director of the Digital Media and Systems Research Institute at the University of Bradford, UK (2002-2010); Chinese National 1000-plan Distinguished Professor at Tianjin University, China (2010-2013); and Chair Professor of Media Computing at the University of Surrey, UK (2010-2014). Since 2014, he has held the China National 1000-plan Distinguished Professorship at Shenzhen University. A Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET, formerly IEE), UK, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), UK, and Chartered Engineer, Jiang has contributed to the European Commission as a proposal evaluator, project auditor, and expert panel member under Framework-6 and Framework-7 programmes, and as a contributing author for the EU Framework-7 Work-Programme in 2013.
Jiang's research focuses on future media computing, including deep learning, brain-perceived semantics from EEG trials, immersive 3D video reconstruction, personalized TV broadcasting, interactive media computing, intelligent VR for disaster rescue, and machine learning approaches for media content analysis. He has published approximately 400 refereed papers in leading international journals and conferences. Key publications include 'URetinex-Net: Retinex-based Deep Unfolding Network for Low-light Image Enhancement' (CVPR 2022), 'EEG-Face: A Facial-Image Stimulated EEG Data-Set for Analysis of Brain Perceived Multimedia' (ACM-MM 2025), 'RobustFace: Adaptive Mining of Noise and Hard Samples for Robust Face Recognitions' (ACM-MM 2024), 'Adversarial Learning for Zero-shot Domain Adaptation' (ECCV 2020), and 'A simple pooling-based design for real-time salient object detection' (CVPR 2019). He serves as Associate Editor for Image and Vision Computing (Elsevier, 2006-2015) and Journal of IET Image Processing (2019-present), and has been recognized by Elsevier as one of the most cited Chinese computer scientists annually since 2014. Additional honors include the Distinguished Professorship Award from Shenzhen University (2015-2017).
